Lisinopril (Zestril, Prinivil)
Available by prescription only, lisinopril (available as Zestril®, Prinivil®, and generic lisinopril) is a medication that is taken for a number of uses. For example, healthcare providers may prescribe it to:
- Control high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Relieve symptoms of congestive heart failure
- Improve survival following a heart attack.
As part of a class of drugs known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, the medication works by blocking certain enzymes to help relax the blood vessels.
This drug is sold in the form of a tablet and is typically taken once a day. It can be taken with or without food. However, it should be taken at the same time every day to maintain an even level in your blood.
