As a combination medication, Inderide works in two ways. The
propranolol component is a type of beta-adrenergic blocking agent, and works by decreasing heart rate,
blood pressure, and the workload on the heart. The
hydrochlorothiazide (
HCTZ) component is a type of diuretic and works by increasing the amount of salt and water the kidneys remove from the blood, which reduces blood volume.
Although the drug is generally well tolerated, it is not suitable for everyone. Before using Inderide, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on your medical history and a list of your current medications. In particular, let your healthcare provider know if you have problems such as lung disease,
diabetes, or kidney problems.
