Side Effects of Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide

Common side effects of bisoprolol and hydrochlorothiazide include dizziness, muscle cramps, fatigue, and diarrhea. Although most side effects are mild and do not require medical attention, some are potentially serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away. Seek medical attention if you experience fainting, chest pain, unexplained swelling, or vomiting.

An Introduction to Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with bisoprolol and hydrochlorothiazide (Ziac®). However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Side Effects of Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide to Report

Some side effects with bisoprolol and hydrochlorothiazide are potentially serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away.
 These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Signs of an electrolyte imbalance, such as:
 
    • Dry mouth and increased thirst
    • Weakness
    • Tiredness
    • Restlessness
    • Seizures
    • Confusion
    • Muscle pain and cramps
    • Decreased urine output
    • Weak or irregular heartbeat
    • Nausea and vomiting
 
  • Gout or worsening of preexisting gout
  • Lightheadedness or fainting, which can be a sign of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • A slow heart rate (bradycardia)
  • Chest pain
  • Eye pain or changes in vision 
  • Worsening of asthma
  • Depression
  • Signs of heart failure, such as:
 
    • Rapid weight gain
    • Swelling of the hands and feet
    • Shortness of breath
 
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
    • Unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
