Effects of Benicar

Benicar® (
olmesartan medoxomil) is commonly prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). The medication is not a cure for this condition, but can be used to control blood pressure levels in adults.

Several studies have looked at the beneficial effects of Benicar. In clinical studies where people were given 40 mg of the drug, they experienced a decrease in systolic blood pressure by 12 mmHg and in diastolic blood pressure by 7 mmHg, on average. These studies also showed that by lowering blood pressure, Benicar can decrease the risks that are often seen with long-term hypertension (see Effects of High Blood Pressure).
