Benicar Tablets

Benicar® (olmesartan medoxomil) is a prescription drug approved for treating high blood pressure in adults and children age six and older. It comes in tablet form and is typically taken once a day. Benicar tablets are available in several strengths, including:

  • Benicar 5 mg
  • Benicar 20 mg
  • Benicar 40 mg.

Part of a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), this medication works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, an action that causes blood vessels to relax (which can lower blood pressure). During clinical studies, people taking 40 mg Benicar tablets experienced a decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Lower doses resulted in a smaller drop in blood pressure.
