Part of a class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers, Benicar® (
olmesartan medoxomil) is used for the treatment of high blood pressure in adults. It comes in tablet form and is typically taken once a day. There are several different strengths of Benicar, including:
Benicar 5 mg
Benicar 20 mg
Benicar 40 mg.
Clinical studies have shown that people taking the 40-mg strength of Benicar were able to decrease their systolic blood pressure by 12 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure by 7 mmHg, on average. Lower doses resulted in a smaller drop in blood pressure.
