Benicar® (
olmesartan medoxomil) is generally a well-tolerated medication. However, even though most people respond well to Benicar, problems could occur during the treatment process.
For example, it is possible to develop certain side effects while taking this medicine. In clinical studies, dizziness was the most common reaction, occurring in up to 3 percent of people. There are also a number of less common but more serious side effects that may occur with Benicar. These problems may include decreased urine production, unexplained skin rash, and fainting spells.
Angiotensin II receptor blockers (including Benicar) have been known to cause a decrease in kidney function. People with severe
congestive heart failure are at a higher risk for this problem. Your healthcare provider will regularly check your kidney function with a simple blood test while you are taking Benicar.
