In order to help minimize risks during treatment with Benicar® (olmesartan medoxomil), dangers associated with the drug should be reviewed before beginning treatment. Although most people respond well to this medication, there are certain things you should be aware of.
For example, side effects are possible with Benicar. While most side effects are mild, there are a number of potentially serious problems that should be reported to your healthcare provider right away, including:
- Unexplained skin rash
- Unexplained swelling of the head or neck
- Decrease in the amount of urine produced.
Benicar may cause extremely low blood pressure in some people. This is more likely to occur in people who are taking a diuretic, who are on dialysis, or who have congestive heart failure. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, as these are potentially dangerous side effects of Benicar.
