Potassium Supplements or Salt Substitutes With Potassium
If you are taking Benicar HCT along with a potassium supplement or a salt substitute with potassium, the levels of potassium in your blood may become too high. This can cause serious problems. Talk to your healthcare provider about using potassium and Benicar HCT together in your situation.
 
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
If you are taking both Benicar HCT and a potassium-sparing diuretic, your body may metabolize the medications differently than intended and/or increase the levels of potassium in your blood. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely if this is the case.
 
Lithium
If you are taking both Benicar HCT and lithium, your body may metabolize the drugs differently than intended and increase the lithium levels in the blood. For this reason, lithium is generally not recommended for people taking Benicar HCT.
 
Insulin
Taking insulin with Benicar HCT may increase blood sugar levels. Your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of insulin as needed.
 
Oral Diabetes Medication
Taking an oral diabetes medication with Benicar HCT may increase blood sugar levels. Your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of diabetes medications as needed.
 
Other High Blood Pressure Medicines
When taking Benicar HCT with another high blood pressure medication, your blood pressure may decrease too much. In order to prevent this Benicar HCT interaction from happening, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or change the dose of either medicine.
 
Alcohol
When taking Benicar HCT with alcohol, your blood pressure may decrease too much. Talk with your healthcare provider about drinking alcohol while taking Benicar HCT.
