Other High Blood Pressure Medicines
Alcohol
When taking Benicar HCT with alcohol, your blood pressure may decrease too much. Talk with your healthcare provider about drinking alcohol while taking Benicar HCT.
Barbiturates
When taking Benicar HCT with a barbiturate, your blood pressure may decrease too much. In order to prevent this particular interaction from happening, your healthcare provider may change the dose of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of Benicar HCT, and/or monitor you more closely.
Narcotics
When taking Benicar HCT with a narcotic, your blood pressure may decrease too much. In order to prevent this, your healthcare provider may change the dose of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of Benicar HCT, and/or monitor you more closely.
Cholestyramine
Cholestyramine can bind to Benicar HCT in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. Benicar HCT should be taken at least one hour before taking cholestyramine or four to six hours after to avoid this drug interaction.
Colestipol
Colestipol can bind to Benicar HCT in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. Benicar HCT should be taken at least one hour before taking colestipol or four to six hours after to avoid this drug interaction.
Corticosteroids
Taking corticosteroids with Benicar HCT may cause an electrolyte imbalance, especially with the levels of potassium in the blood. If you are taking a corticosteroid with Benicar HCT, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of medicine as needed.
