Benicar HCT® is a combination of two medicines -- Benicar® and hydrochlorothiazide -- and is used to treat high blood pressure in adults. The drug works by causing the blood vessels to relax and increasing the amount of water removed from the blood. As a result, Benicar HCT causes a decrease in blood volume and thus can lower blood pressure. Benicar HCT has been shown to cause a greater drop in blood pressure than when either medicine is used alone.
