AZOR is used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Because the medication has not been adequately studied in children or adolescents, it has only been approved for use in adults (age 18 and older). AZOR is a combination medication that contains olmesartan and amlodipine, and works by relaxing the blood vessels and improving blood flow. There are currently no off-label AZOR uses.

What Is AZOR Used For?

AZOR™ (amlodipine and olmesartan) is a prescription medication that is approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is a combination medication, containing olmesartan (Benicar®) and amlodipine (Norvasc®). AZOR can be used as "first line" treatment (as the first medication that is tried), if it is expected that treatment with two medications will be necessary.

AZOR for High Blood Pressure

A blood pressure reading consists of two numbers -- for example, 120/80. The top number is known as the systolic blood pressure, and the bottom number is the diastolic blood pressure. High blood pressure is defined as an average blood pressure higher than 140/90, with multiple blood pressure readings.
In clinical studies, AZOR has been shown to significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. By lowering blood pressure, AZOR can decrease the risk of developing health problems, such as a stroke, heart disease, or congestive heart failure, which can occur with long-term high blood pressure (see Effects of High Blood Pressure).
AZOR is not a cure for high blood pressure. AZOR is approved to be used alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications.
