Avalide and Blood Sugar

Although most people can safely and effectively take Avalide® (irbesartan/HCTZ), this medication may not be the best choice for people who have certain medical conditions. For example, people who have diabetes should consult their healthcare provider before using this blood pressure medication.

Hydrochlorothiazide, one of the components in Avalide, may increase blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. If you have diabetes, your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dosages of your diabetes medications.

Before taking Avalide, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any medical conditions you may have. If you are concerned about developing problems like diabetes while taking this medication, talk to your healthcare provider about whether Avalide is the best blood pressure medication for your particular situation.
