Most people with
high blood pressure start with 50 mg
atenolol tablets (one tablet, once a day). The recommended starting dosage for people with angina is also 50 mg once daily. After a week or two, your healthcare provider will check your response to the medication and increase or decrease your atenolol dosage as necessary.
Following a heart attack, atenolol is given in the hospital through an intravenous line (IV). Your healthcare provider may then recommend continuing the medication following discharge from the hospital. The specific dose of atenolol your healthcare provider recommends can vary based on a number of factors.
(Click Atenolol Dose for more information on when and how to take atenolol, to find out what you should be aware of before starting the drug, and for a list of factors that a healthcare provider will consider before making any dosing recommendations.)
