Altace Uses

Altace uses are generally focused on treating hypertension, but the drug is also licensed to treat a number of other medical conditions. Altace is a type of ACE inhibitor, which helps to block the angiotensin-converting enzyme that causes blood vessels to constrict. This helps relax the blood vessels and lower blood pressure. Because relaxing the blood vessels can make it easier for the heart to pump, other Altace uses involve treating congestive heart failure.

 

Altace Uses: An Overview

 Altace® (ramipril) has been licensed to treat a number of conditions. These Altace uses include:
 

 

High Blood Pressure
A blood pressure reading consists of two numbers, for example 120/80. The top number is known as the systolic blood pressure and the bottom number is the diastolic blood pressure. High blood pressure is defined as an average blood pressure higher than 140/90 with multiple blood pressure readings.
 
Based on clinical studies, Altace has been shown to significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The higher the dose of Altace, the greater the drop in blood pressure tended to be. By lowering blood pressure, Altace can decrease the risks that occur with long-term high blood pressure (see Effects of High Blood Pressure). Altace is not a cure for high blood pressure.
