Drug Interactions With Aliskiren-HCTZ

Atorvastatin Products (Lipitor, Caduet)
Atorvastatin can increase the level of aliskiren-HCTZ in the blood by as much as 50 percent. This could increase your risk of side effects of aliskiren-HCTZ. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your aliskiren-HCTZ dosage if you start or stop taking atorvastatin, although this may not be necessary in all cases.
 
Cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran, Questran Light, LoCholest)
Cholestyramine can bind to the hydrochlorothiazide component of aliskiren-HCTZ in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. Aliskiren-HCTZ should be taken at least one hour before, or four to six hours after, taking cholestyramine in order to avoid this drug interaction.
 
Colestipol (Colestid)
Colestipol can bind to the hydrochlorothiazide component of aliskiren-HCTZ in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. Aliskiren-HCTZ should be taken at least one hour before, or four to six hours after, taking colestipol in order to avoid this drug interaction.
 
Diabetes Medications
Hydrochlorothiazide (one of the components of aliskiren-HCTZ) can sometimes increase blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes, your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dose of your diabetes medications to compensate for this effect.
 
Furosemide (Lasix)
Aliskiren-HCTZ can decrease the levels of furosemide in your blood, possibly making furosemide less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your furosemide dosage if you start or stop taking aliskiren-HCTZ.
 
Cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune)
Cyclosporine can greatly increase the level of aliskiren-HCTZ in your blood. These medications should not be taken together.
 
Itraconazole (Sporanox)
Itraconazole can greatly increase the level of aliskiren in your blood. These drugs should not be taken together.
  
Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
Ketoconazole can increase the level of aliskiren-HCTZ in the blood, which could increase your risk of aliskiren-HCTZ side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your aliskiren-HCTZ dosage if you start or stop taking ketoconazole, although this may not be necessary in all cases.
