Generic for Accupril: An Overview
Accupril® (
quinapril hydrochloride) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to
treat high blood pressure (
hypertension) and
congestive heart failure. Accupril is part of a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, or ACE inhibitors for short. Accupril helps to block the angiotensin-converting enzyme, which is normally part of a reaction in the body that causes blood vessels to narrow (constrict). By blocking this enzyme, Accupril causes blood vessels to relax, which lowers
blood pressure. It also allows the heart to work more efficiently.
Accupril was originally developed by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. It has since come off patent, making it available as a generic.
