Accupril Dosage

For people with high blood pressure, the recommended starting Accupril dosage is 10 mg or 20 mg once daily or divided into two smaller doses (5 mg to 10 mg twice a day). People with congestive heart failure are recommended to take a starting Accupril dose of 5 mg twice a day. Some factors that can affect Accupril dosing include your age, the medical condition you are being treated for, and other medical conditions you may have. It is important that you take your Accupril dose on an empty stomach -- at least one hour before or two hours after a meal.

Accupril Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of Accupril® (quinapril hydrochloride) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:

  • Your age
  • The medical condition you are being treated for
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.

As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Accupril Dosing for High Blood Pressure

The recommended starting dosage of Accupril for most people with
high blood pressure (hypertension) is Accupril 10 mg or 20 mg once daily or divided into two smaller doses (Accupril 5 mg to 10 mg twice a day). Based on the blood pressure response and/or Accupril side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased. With each change in dosage, it may take several weeks to see the full effects of Accupril on lowering blood pressure.

If you have high blood pressure and are already taking a diuretic (water pill), have kidney disease, or are older, your healthcare provider may choose to start you on a lower dose of Accupril, such as Accupril 5 mg.
